Hi, I’m Ézé.

I’m a documentary photographer and photojournalist based in Charlottesville, Virginia.

My Story

I was originally trained in the sciences at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. After embracing my passion for fine art, and then photography, I immigrated to Charlottesville in 2008 where I now capture the unique spirit and energy of my city.

Driven to tell the true stories of Charlottesville and neighboring communities, my many photo projects have included Cville People Everyday, Cville Porch Portraits , Witnessing Resistance (which ran in September of 2022 at the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center) and my ongoing project — The Story of Us “Reclaiming The Narrative of #Charlottesville Through Storytelling and Portrait of Community Resilience.

I am also an affiliate photographer with numerous national and international media organizations and my works have been featured by The New York Times, Getty Images, NPR, AP, CNN, Buzzfeed, Washington Post and The New Yorker.

My photos have been recognized in TIME’s Top 100 Photos of 2023, CNN’s “In pictures: A racial reckoning in America 2020”, BUZZFEED’s “The Most Powerful photos of 2021, The APPEAR’s Powerful Photographs That Captures Defining Moments in History.

I am always on the move and currently working on a book as part of the “The Story of Us project. and also busy documenting resistance efforts on the ground and bringing out the beauty in people around me.
